Glock G44 .22LR Semi Automatic Rimfire
After many years of manufacturing the quintessential polymer pistol in almost every conceivable caliber, Glock has finally forayed into the realm of 22 caliber firearms. The new Glock 44 is in many respects a Glock 19 chambered in 22 LR and the decision to design this pistol was the result of two different sets of requests form loyal Glock aficionados.
Glock users wanted a drill and range training weapon with the approximate weight and accuracy of higher caliber Glock pistols with a decidedly less expensive ammunition. Essentially, they wanted a firearm that felt just like their regular carry weapon possessing something approaching the recoil with which they were accustomed.
The second request put forth to Glock came from law enforcement, government agencies, and security contractors for a subsonic Glock that could be effectively suppressed. To fulfill this request, the Glock 44 is compatible with standard 22 caliber suppressors by affixing an optional threaded barrel adapter (1/2 x 28 thread pitch).
The Glock 44 has the usual Glock safety features such as a loaded chamber indicator and their special three-stage Safe-Action trigger system which is linked to an offset transfer bar that only lowers when the trigger is depressed. This design ensures that the weapon cannot make firing pin contact even if dropped to prevent accidental discharge of the weapon.
As designed, Glocks are double-action only and the offset transfer bar also is an additional protection against slam fires under extended hot use of the pistol. For customization options, the Glock 44 has a modular backstrap which can be swapped out to fit the hand size of different users and the pistol is completely ambidextrous with a slide stop that can be accesses from either side as well as possessing a reversible magazine release.
The frame features a forward mounting rail for the addition of a tactical light or laser sighting system. Sights are Glock standard polymer dot on the bladed front sight and U notch sights in the rear, the latter of which can be substituted for other Glock or compatible aftermarket sights.
The barrel that comes with the Glock 44 is their standard Glock Marksman Barrel, which is polygonal rifled instead of land and groove. The 10-round magazine is made of polymer and light, featuring a load-assist slider for quick reloading (Glock claims that with practice, the user can reload 10 rounds to the magazine in about 30 seconds).
